Meet Davide, 23, an Italian born part-time alternative model who has been one of our star employees here at Goldsmith Vintage for almost a year. You may have seen him killing it modeling some of our wilder ensembles on the website or caught him down at our stores. His stunning unique fashion sense is undeniable and so today we'd like to put him in the spotlight and find out a bit more about what inspires him and his style.
GV: Hi Davide! Thank you for talking to us. You have an amazing look! How would you define your personal style?
Davide: I would describe my look as mainly goth but with my own personal twist. I try to embody the genderless style of the alternative '80s and then customise the image with piercings, dark make-up and elements of fetish such as a thigh high boots and a corset to personalise it and make it my own.
GV: Awesome! So what would you say is your go-to outfit?
Davide: I love denim! My go-to jeans are my black Levis which I wear all the time. I love them because they are so versatile. I can wear them as a casual look with a classic black t-shirt during the day but then add a gorgeous faux fur coat or leather jacket and my favourite cowboy hat and I'm ready to go out clubbing! I love to wear black leather! Leather jackets, leather dresses, leather trousers! The more leather, the better!
GV: Love it! So who do you consider to be your style icon?
Davide: I love Miley Cyrus! Not only is she gorgeous, talented and an LGBTQ+ icon, but she has a truly diverse style range. She looks great in everything, from high shine '70s and '80s sequin dresses to her mum jeans and crazy sweaters. She can pull off every vintage look and is an inspiration to our customers.
GV: Amen! So why do you like working with vintage clothes rather than new or high street brands?
Davide: For me, I like the idea of working in a completely different environment to perhaps where people would expect me to based on my image. Which means that vintage is for everyone. The main thing I like about vintage is that it's like all the best parts of all the different eras of fashion coming together, and you can pick and choose your favourite parts to customise your own look.
GV: What's your advice for anyone new to vintage? Any top tips for shopping second hand fashion?
Davide: Firstly, choose your vintage clothing store wisely! Goldsmith Vintage is great because the quality and range of clothes is excellent! A lot of care goes into the selection as well as the shopping experience itself because it is run by people who care. Check for damaged items and stains. An honest retailer will clearly label any faults and discount accordingly so you can make an informed choice. As for what clothes to buy? My advice is to be yourself. If you connect to a certain decade and you find it suits your style, then start there as that's probably what will work best for you best.
GV: Why would you say that shopping vintage is so important?
Davide: Vintage plays a major role in helping to combat the issues bought about by the fashion industry and years and years of mass produced high street clothing which is often only worn a few times. By turning to vintage we are actively recycling and moving towards a more sustainable future.

Davide: I loved the wedding dress which we did an amazing photo shoot with and the leopard print body!
